Radicals Race at Homestead Miami Speedway Dateline

Homestead, Fl. April 22-23, 2006 - Thursday 27th April 2006 Race One Grid Line-up

Congratulations to Radical Motorsports of Floridas newest team member Joel Feinberg, and visiting guests from Aspen Race Club Wayne Ducote and Larry Winnerman.

The venue was Homestead Miami Speedway round 3 in the PBOC race series.

Saturday’s 60 minute enduro was a mixed bag. Larry Winnerman driving a 1300cc SR3 gridded 21st, drove his way consistently towards the front of the pack and finished 15th. Wayne Ducote started the weekend in a 1500 SR3 that had developed early gear box issues.

Rollcentre Racing's Martin Short

On Sunday, the Radical team was ready for action. Joel Feinberg was racing his brand new stealth black high- downforce SR3 1500cc for the very first time. With only two practice days under his belt, Joel qualified for sprint race # 1 in 7th place. Wayne Ducote would drive a rare “SR3 turbo” for the very first time. He had much to learn quickly about his new mount, the brutally powerful 335bhp turbo powered radical. He qualified in 8th position. Larry Winnerman qualified in 15th.

The first 30 min race was fast & furious with the radicals making their way up the pack of well prepared 997 Porsche Cup / RS cars and vipers. Ducote managed to “tame the beast” in the turbo and finish 3rd. Joel Feinberg finished 7th and Larry Winnerman had a good showing finishing 11th. Sprint race #2 was very exciting. The local top gun porsches were served notice that the radicals meant business. All drivers started in the finish order from the previous race. Wayne Ducote had a great start and held p2 going into turn #1. Once his fresh rubber scrubbed in, he went to work hunting down the 997 Porsche RScup drive by local hot shoe Dino Steiner. Each lap Wayne got more comfortable with the turbo. Dino felt Wayne’s presence every moment.

Then on lap 6, Wayne raised his game and put the move on Dino. The red turbo took over the lead and began to “check out” on the field. Dino came around turn 14 trying in vain to catch Wayne and broke loose sideways. The followinng lap the turbo suddenly lost power from a failed spark plug wire and Ducote slipped back and finished 8th. All was not in vain as Waynes showing posted the turbo to fast lap of the race & weekend!! While all this was taking place, no one noticed Joel Feinberg making his way to the front of the pack. First he dispatched a 996 cup car in p4 and then set his sights and reeled in Hal Pruett in his 997 RS cup car. Joel drove cool and brilliantly to second place finish. A few more laps and Dino was in for more fits. Larry Winnerman enjoyed the action and finished 13th.

A great weekend was had by all and the drivers can’t wait till round 4 in May.

PBOC SEBRING RACES (May 21-22)

Sebring Raceway was the venue for the round four of PBOC races. Saturday’s 60 minute enduro saw Radical Morotsports of Florida team members take a one – two win. Jeff McKee driving his yellow SR3 turbo that just hours before was fitted with a refreshed motor took the checker first with Richard Granofsky finishing second in a 1500 SR3. However after the race, pit marshals assessed a penalty for a refueling violation to McKee crew, which gave Granofsky the overall win, ad McKee still taking 1st in class.

Sunday’s two 30 minute sprint races would be a different story. On race #1 under a hot Florida sun with 52 cars on grid, Jeff McKee gridded from P6 and Richard Granofsky on pole. When the Green dropped McKee quickly made his way up front while Granofsky fell off pace due to shifting issues but managed to finished 2nd in class. Jeff McKee drove a gritty race and held position P1 until the final lap, when he was passed Midway at the hairpin by a hard charging Porsche 911 RS Cup car that had finished 2nd place at LeMans. With only ½ a lap to go, McKee kept his cool and waited for the opportunity to spool up the turbo and with 4 turns left took the lead back from the Porsche along with the checkered flag. 1st in class and overall winner.

Race #2 would grid McKee on the pole with the Porsche RS second and Granofsky 5th. It was to be a dog fight the entire way. As the green flag dropped, a slight drizzle made the track a bit slippery. McKee held off the Porsche for the first 10 minutes when he was finally passed. For the rest of the race, the drivers fought hard with no more than 3-4 car lengths separating them the entire time. Traffic did not work in McKee’s favor and he finished the race in overall P2 (1st in class) after driving a very fast pace. Granofsky finished 2nd in class.

Congratulations to team members JEFF MCKEE and RICHARD GRANOFSKY for some great racing.
